FAQ’S
-
What is the minimum depth of a tyre tread?
In the UK the law requires car tyres to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the central three quarters of the tyre.
-
How long do brake pads last?
Pad life depends on driving habits, vehicle usage, and operating environment. Brake Pads are designed to provide 20,000 to 25,000 miles of life in very severe use (such as heavy-traffic urban areas) and will give 40,000 to 60,000 miles of pad life in average use. Factors that will reduce pad life include frequent heavy braking, elevated temperatures (caused by high-speed braking), driving with the vehicle heavily loaded, and severe environments such as high-corrosion areas and areas with a lot of road debris and dust.
-
One wiper blade is perished do I change both?
Yes, we recommended that you replace both. This will ensure your windscreen is clear and provide a safer view when driving.
-
Which engine oil should I use?
Please consult your “Owners Manual” If you do not have one you could bring it to our workshop, where we will advise you on which oil is matched to your vehicle.
-
When is My MOT Due?
Trying to remember when your next MOT is due can be a little bit of a headache. It couldn’t be easier though – the DVLA GOV.uk website has a simple MOT status check that can give you an exact date to confirm when you need to have your car tested. You can have a MOT test from any registered dealer a month before the due date. It’s always better to book in early to get a MOT off your to-do list!
-
Can I drive my car to the MOT test station?
It is illegal to drive without a valid MOT certificate, so whether you can drive your car will depend on whether the date on your old MOT certificate has passed. If the renewal date on your valid MOT test certificate is still to come, then you may only drive your car to be repaired or to a pre-arranged MOT appointment, and even then, only if it has been confirmed as roadworthy.
Except for in some exceptional circumstances, you should absolutely not drive a car that does not have an MOT – as you may not be covered by your insurance. For peace of mind, it’s worth booking your mot before your old one runs out – you can book up to 28 days in advance and your old date will roll over to the next year, you will not lose out on the days in between.
